Chapter 100

I Got a Gallery in the Wild - Chapter 100

Holy Kingdom of El Dorado: Here is the truth.

El Dorado had long since noticed the Undead King’s plan.

The Undead King transformed the citizens into undead in an instant, and this had been the foundation laid out for that goal.

Believing that they could maintain a minimum of dignity only if they died as humans rather than undead, we were forced to carry out the killings.

Because of this, not a few people are suffering from psychological aftereffects.

And all of these lies originated from the Gallery. Therefore, we will henceforth designate the Gallery as evil.

Please do not dare doubt the will of God. We are doing our best as well.

Is that roughly what I heard? These bastards are trying to define the Gallery as evil again lolol

└ The Holy Kingdom is always like that lolol

└ They would have been fine if they just didn’t mention the Gallery, but they always gotta ruin the mood lol

└ But it didn’t seem like everyone was believing all of that?

└ Yeah, the vibe was like "what bullshit are you talking about." Probably because the Holy Kingdom’s image is total trash

└ They’re throwing firewood onto the fire all by themselves lol

└ If it were really like that from the start, they would have said so way earlier.

└ Who would believe that? lol

└ Serves them right for always acting high and mighty with their "will of God" bullshit

└ Breaking news. Kadir issued a statement. The Previous Hero chose suicide.

└ ??? What kind of talk is that again?

└ Didn’t the Previous Hero die together with the Undead King?

└ Yeah, he died alongside him, but word is it was practically suicide.

└ Wow;; I thought the Previous Hero was an extraordinarily nice person.

└ Did the Holy Kingdom pressure him? People these days say the priests have fucking zero faith.

└ If that statement is true, a riot might break out.

└ Not quite a riot. What if they just keep denying it to the end?

└ Once testimonies start popping out one by one, it’ll be a different story again, right?

└ Forget all that, upvote if you feel great that the Holy Kingdom is fucked lolol

└ Me first lolol

└ Honestly so refreshing! Whenever those bastards do anything, they just jabber on about the will of God lol

└ What’s hilarious is those guys say "the path is open to all believers" while preventing anyone not from the Holy Kingdom from even becoming a bishop lol

└ Especially their discrimination against the Demon Race is fucking severe. They treat them like terrorists or something?

The discussion topic I had tossed out without much thought. The topic I thought would fade away after a single day.

That discussion topic had gone beyond being talked about in reality and transformed into a massive inferno.

Without exception, the vast majority of posts were cursing the Holy Kingdom, and there was not a single good thing said about them.

What on earth did El Dorado do wrong, Gallery bros?

Did they pressure surrounding nations in the name of God’s will?

Did they frame innocent people as heretics and torture them to death?

Did so-called clergymen enter the slums and murder people?

Did they confess they couldn’t offer prayers because they were too busy?

Did they double the local taxes just because people didn’t pay donations?

Did they classify sports as a drug and get hit with Molotov cocktails by angry fans?

Did they bash the Gallery every chance they got, only to get caught with lewd pictures themselves?

Did they make a law stating people from other countries can’t rise above Archbishop?

Did they insult the populace as dogs and pigs while saying they’d forget quickly anyway?

Did they try to forcibly form a federation under the guise of subjugating the Demon King, only to get cursed out by the Empire?

On top of that, did they ruin the Balkan Kingdom?

During the Undead King crisis, did they turn away refugees claiming they were infected?

When the plague broke out due to the undead, did they conduct human experimentation?

Just what on earth did El Dorado do to deserve being mocked like this? I have no idea whatsoever.

"Whoa."

They are just fucking rotten bastards. Corrupt to the core.

They say stagnant water rots, but this goes beyond rotting—it’s turned into crude oil at this point.

No. Crude oil is actually useful for something; this is just pure trash.

’Every nation has a dark side, but this is a bit much.’

Through that post, I realized in an instant why the Holy Kingdom had such a terrible image.

Especially the part where people from other countries could not rise above the position of Archbishop.

That meant they were openly hoarding everything for themselves. It was utterly unfair.

’Can a religion really be this corrupt?’

I resent God, but I don’t hate religion or the people who believe in it.

Though I avoid extreme individuals, the person who helped me when I was struggling was also a religious person.

But this... is closer to rotten politicians than religious practitioners.

Unless time passes and those people die, or as someone said, a rebellion breaks out, it’ll be hard to change.

’Human places are all the same, huh.’

Even if the world is different, people seem to be all the same.

I stared at the Gallery, which was starting to get plastered with all sorts of jokes and memes, and quietly closed it.

It felt like it would take a long time before the information I actually wanted popped up.

If worse comes to worst, I’ll just ask Allfather.Get faster updates on nоvelping.com.

’By the way, declaring the Gallery as evil? Really now.’

This wasn’t even military-style administrative handling; what on earth were they doing?

At least seeing that they weren’t vowing to catch me specifically meant they still had a brain.

Even if they claimed they would catch me, I was in the Forest of the Four Seasons, which made it impossible. I just had to focus on my tasks.

"Cough! Cough! Ugh."

I coughed from the acrid smoke.

The campfire was weak, so I added more firewood, but it ended up being too much.

I couldn’t really pull it out either, which was a bit troublesome.

’I should start thinking about other cooking methods soon.’

Like roasting directly over an open fire, or cooking over direct heat on a cast-iron pan.

While these were more than enough to make a living, they had a drawback.

Namely, the fish—my staple food—were way too big.

Even excluding the head, flipping them over was a chore in itself.

Because of that, parts of it would get burnt or stay undercooked halfway through, leaving awkward results.

’Would a hearth or oven be better for times like this?’

If I had an oven, I could minimize burnt or raw parts as much as possible.

Plus, it had the advantage of allowing me to do other tasks while the food was cooking.

Since I had resolved to reside here for a long time, an oven was practically essential.

’I should try making one.’

Asking the Gallery seemed a bit awkward, but there was a perfectly suitable fixed handle user.

Coincidentally, I could also source materials from that fixed handle, so it was killing two birds with one stone.

[Wild Grylls: Hey. Are you there?]

[Passing Dwarf: I’m here, why?]

How come he’s awake?

I thought he’d be passed out drunk groaning somewhere.

[Passing Dwarf: Didn’t drink much yesterday.]

So why’d you call?

Nothing major, just trying to build an oven.

[Wild Grylls: I’ll buy bricks at the auction house, but I want to get some tips from you.]

[Passing Dwarf: Just because I’m a Dwarf doesn’t mean I know how to make everything;;]

My specialty is metallurgy, man.

[Wild Grylls: Aren’t Dwarves good with their hands in general?]

[Passing Dwarf: Aside from that, I lack the specific expertise.]

Instead, I can get you a plate for the oven, so just tell me.

Make it large enough to easily fit a big fish.

[Wild Grylls: You know the size, right?]

[Passing Dwarf: Got it. I’ll make it, so give me a piece once you bake something in the oven later.]

Got it. Ah, right.

[Wild Grylls: Give me the barricade too.]

[Passing Dwarf: Almost forgot.]

I’ll give it to you when I give you the iron plate.

Then I should prepare everything before the Dwarf hands it over.

I woke up at 6:00 AM today. Browsing the Gallery took 30 minutes.

I usually eat breakfast around 7:00 or 7:30 AM, so I can construct the oven until then.

If building it turns out difficult, I can just eat grilled fish on the iron plate for breakfast. No problem.

Cheolseok! Cheolseok!

There were three fish caught in the fish trap today.

Every time I wake up, there seem to be 3 caught. Otherwise, it catches 2 at a time.

’There aren’t any octopuses, right?’

Even if it isn’t an octopus, if I see any other creature, I plan to be immediately on guard.

Fortunately, no other creatures except fish were visible.

Humming a tune, I carried down the fish trap containing the fish.

Buseureok!

Then, the sound of bushes rustling reached my ears.

The moment I heard that sound, I immediately gripped my weapon and went into an alert stance.

Having suffered so much up until now, it was a move I performed naturally.

"..."

However, all that could be heard was still the rustling noise.

Gradually easing my stance, I glared toward the direction of the sound.

’Given that it’s not below, but a bit higher up... is it a bird?’

Even if it were a bird, no sound of flapping wings could be heard at all.

Filled with doubt, I returned to the cave. Nothing particular happened until I arrived back.

Cheombeong! Cheombeong!

Gradually, supply was outstripping demand.

It seemed I would have to purchase a larger iron bucket.

Unless it rained again, if I didn’t have a container to keep them alive until then, they would all rot away.

’This is a dilemma in its own right.’

The fish were simply too large. At first when food was scarce, it was a massive advantage, but once my needs were somewhat met, drawbacks were starting to show.Get faster updates on novelping(.)com.

Still, the merit of being able to eat to my heart’s content every meal was too great to abandon.

’Not that I can just stop stockpiling, either.’

Since I never knew when or how food might become scarce, it was best to steadily gather supplies just in case.

Watching the fish swim happily inside the iron bucket, I moved to another spot.

Since breakfast time was approaching, it seemed wise to start building at least part of the oven.

’Where should I install the oven, though?’

I bumped into an unseasonable dilemma. Where would be a good place to install the oven?

Installing it inside the cave posed problems with cramped space and smoke, while installing it outside posed problems with the weather.

After pondering over and over, I decided to install it right against the cave entrance.

However, I didn’t forget to design it taking rain into consideration.

’Once the oven is fully set up, let’s install a waterproof tarp over it. Tilted at an angle so the water drains away.’

To fit the fish whole, the oven would also need to be made quite large.

I accessed the auction house and checked if there were bricks of a suitable size.

Perhaps because bricks had been used since ancient times, there was quite a wide variety available.

’Level out the ground first.’

Building a single oven required all kinds of preliminary work.

It looked like breakfast would have to be what I usually ate.

’I’ll just prepare the materials and wrap it up for now.’

Stacks of bricks, waterproof tarps, poles to secure the tarps, and so on.

After roughly stacking the supplies near the cave entrance, I prepared breakfast.

Coincidentally, Wonmo had just woken up as well.

’I can put this iron plate inside the oven too.’

After finishing breakfast with fish, I immediately dove into constructing the oven.

First, I flattened the ground as much as possible, then neatly stacked the bricks considering the size of the fish.

The crucial part was the chimney for smoke to escape. Since I wasn’t smoking the food, I created a passage for the smoke to vent out.

In a shape where smoke could exit while preventing rain from entering as much as possible.

’And then... what structure was an oven again?’

Periodically accessing the Gallery, I checked what ovens looked like.

While there were ovens in the auction house, they were expensive, and I didn’t know if they would match the size I wanted.

Moreover, rather than a rounded shape, an angled rectangle was ideal. It was easier to build, too.

’Taking the fish size into account, I should make it somewhat long.’

The height could be low. Instead, it needed depth.

Considering all of this, I built the chimney at the very top. Very good.

’Perfect.’

The flagstones I installed were bought from the auction house, so there were no worries.

However, this wasn’t the end. I still needed the item I had requested from the Dwarf.

He said he would make it for me, but it seemed I needed to measure the dimensions myself.

(Photo of the overall oven structure)

(Photo measuring the oven entrance with a tape measure)

[Wild Grylls: Will this work?]

[Passing Dwarf: You built it pretty neatly.]

Slap some mud between those bricks.

That way heat won’t leak and it’ll heat up better.

Thx for the pro tip.

Following the tip given by the Dwarf, I gathered nearby soil and turned it into mud.

Even if it felt a bit gross, I was willing to endure anything for the sake of the oven.

"Kkyuu?"

"Daddy’s working."

Wonmo approached from the side, but I remained immersed in building the oven.

As if curious about what I was doing, Wonmo flopped down to watch.

He was so cute I almost hugged him, but managed to barely suppress the urge.

Only after applying all the mud was everything finished.

Strictly speaking, installing the waterproof tarp would mark the true end, but I could do that at my leisure.

’Perfect. Absolutely perfect.’

Looking at the completed oven, a smile naturally spread across my face.

Now I should post this on the Gallery to show off. Just as I logged into the Gallery...

El Dorado: Declared they’ll catch the person spreading false info lolol

A headline that wasn’t easy to scroll past caught my eye. By the way, it was a Recommended Post.

Wondering what kind of dumbasses said such a thing, I clicked in.

Since it could just be ragebait or tabloid rumor, checking was essential.

El Dorado: Declared they’ll catch the person spreading false info lolol

When asked how they’d catch him, they said they’d catch him through peaceful dialogue with the administrator.

But I guess the reporter browses the Gallery too, because when he said Grylls is in the Forest of the Four Seasons, they replied it doesn’t matter lolol

Even more shocking is they reportedly formed a tracking squad to catch Grylls lolol

What’s this?

Are they supplying survivors to the Forest of the Four Seasons just for me?
