Through ’Grow Big and Tall,’ I realized that farming was going to become a whole lot easier.
If you just scatter seeds and they grow up fast on their own, it can hardly even be called farming.
It was just cultivating the field reasonably well, scattering seeds on top, and then harvesting when they fully grew.
Taking this opportunity, it seemed better to obtain other crops besides wheat as well.
Paak! Pak!
"That’s enough for now. Let me head back."
"@#%$"
Before that, I had to do what needed to be done first. I gave instructions to Ludwig, who was shoveling.
The place we were at right now was the lower reaches of the river where sand was located.
We came to fetch more sand because we needed extra to craft more cement.
Maybe because he was a soldier, if there was one thing he was exceptionally good at besides everything else, it was shoveling.
Thanks to that, we were able to hit our target quota quickly.
Puaaak! Splash!
It was right as we loaded the sacks with sand and were about to head back.
A whale so large it elicited awe leaped up above the water’s surface.
However, I realized only recently that it wasn’t a whale.
That wasn’t a whale, but an abnormally massive fish.
’Since it’s a fantasy world, I wonder if there are more fish of that size?’
I checked Ludwig’s reaction.
As if he couldn’t believe what he had just seen with his own eyes, he stood stock-still staring at the river.
Well, even I never dreamed a whale would live in a river. To be precise, a fish the size of a whale, though.
"Ahjussi. You’ve got to get used to things like that now. This is that kind of place to begin with, right?"
"...."
"No matter what pops out, there’s only shocking things left, so let’s go."
At my persuasion(?), Ludwig also snapped back to his senses.
Right now, with a talking gorilla standing right next to him, I wondered if there was anything left to be shocked about.
I handed the sacks packed full of sand over to Lackey.
Lackey also listened to my words obediently now, looking like he was gradually getting used to it.
’I wonder how this guy would react if he saw the giant crab and giant crayfish by the lake?’
I suddenly felt curious, but I had no plans to go all the way there.
Right now, if we couldn’t build the house, we would have to cram even Lackey and Largo into the cramped cave.
A situation where time was gold and a lifeline.
’Up to Lackey is fine, but Largo would be really uncomfortable.’
Without delay, we returned straight to the Shelter.
Whether it was because we formed a proper group(?) now, or because we were just lucky.
On the way back, no incidents of other animals attacking us occurred.
’Come to think of it, I haven’t been attacked much recently?’
It was just guys like Lackey or Ludwig who sought me out or bumped into me while passing by, but none attacked us.
Maybe the animals of the Forest of the Four Seasons recognized this place as my territory as well.
If not that, maybe everyone was preparing for winter.
I just hope some random raccoon doesn’t lead a herd of beasts over like last time.
"Alright. Let me work."
"@%%#"
"Farming comes after we finish all of this."
Building a house using bricks.
When watching it on video, it looked easy at first glance, but it was a pretty difficult task.
You might ask if I didn’t craft the makeshift oven and makeshift furnace just fine, but those were small in size.
However, because the house was large, if even a slight mistake was made, the whole thing might have to be torn down completely.
’We have to level it, and the amount of cement applied in between has to be neat. It’s really tough.’
We even had to separate out a space to install the middle door.
Why not make windows? Considering that would extend construction time even further.
Besides, this place was strictly a shelter and emergency haven. It wasn’t a home, so there was no need to consider that far.
However, there was a major problem.
’The ceiling... How should I build it?’
It was precisely the ceiling. I tilted my head back and looked up at the sky.
We had to build the ceiling sturdily so it could withstand upcoming natural disasters.
The problem was that I didn’t even have a clue how to build it.
You might think we could just build it in a roughly square shape, but...
’Even if the ceiling is built like that, the roof has to be built in a triangular shape.’
That way, snow would naturally fall downwards.
If we built the roof flat, there was a high probability it would collapse with a crash.
Because I only realized recently that the weight of snow was beyond imagination.
Though I had realized it during my military service as well, clearing it by myself made me realize it even more desperately.
’For now, I should plan the section where the fireplace will be installed.’
Excluding the ceiling for now, I built the brick house.
With not just Ludwig but also Lackey joining in, the work speed became remarkably fast.
Thus, as roughly one hour passed, we were able to raise all the walls.
To prepare for avalanches, we would have to reinforce it more, but I planned to consider that slowly. This chapter was taken from novelping(.)com without permission.
’It sure is high.’
Because it took Largo’s height into account, the height alone was about the equivalent of a 2-story apartment.
Erecting a ceiling on top of this and even putting up a roof felt daunting.
Still, I had to do it. I immediately logged into the Gallery.
[Wild Grylls: Hey, Dwarf ahjussi. Are you there?]
[Passing Dwarf: What now.]
[Wild Grylls: (Photo of wide-open ceiling) I need to put up a ceiling here, give me some tips.]
[Passing Dwarf: ? Why the hell did you build the ceiling so high?]
[Wild Grylls: Lackey and the giraffe need to go in together.]
[Passing Dwarf: Giraffe? That long-necked guy?]
[Wild Grylls: Yeah.]
[Passing Dwarf: Ha, wow;;; Even animal pens aren’t built like that. Just looking at it makes me feel suffocated.]
[Wild Grylls: Can you help? By the way, I also need to put up a roof.]
[Passing Dwarf: I’ll teach you all the basics, so just pray it doesn’t collapse. This isn’t something a novice should be doing in the first place.]
[Wild Grylls: If it collapses, well... Lackey will handle it.]
Although I said that, I was going to prevent such a thing from ever happening.
I had zero intention of cutting corners. Sloppy construction was a sin, after all.
’Just in case, I should build the walls even sturdier.’
To prepare for avalanches, I built the walls in layers.
Thanks to that, it took about an hour longer. In the meantime, the dwarf posted a thread.

Build it roughly like this. If needed, I can also give you stuff to cover the top.
└ Wild Grylls) But there’s a condition, right? Name it.
└ Passing Dwarf) I saw a post earlier where some fixed handle said crops grew damn fast just by scattering soil.
└ Wild Grylls) Yeah, heard about that. So?
└ Passing Dwarf) Later I’ll give you barley seeds, so when it grows can you give me some? I want to drink beer made from barley grown in the Forest of the Four Seasons.
└ Wild Grylls) Seriously, always with the damn alcohol;; Alright, got it.
└ Passing Dwarf) thx thx
I thoroughly read the post uploaded by the dwarf in detail.
A coffered ceiling is literally a method of building like a grid pattern.
What was needed here were raw timber logs crafted to appropriate lengths.
What did this mean? It meant Lackey’s workload had increased.
"Hey, Lackey. I’ll measure the length and width, so you prepare the logs. Got it?"
"Unfair. Exhausting."
"Don’t talk back, just do it."
"Bad guy."
"No food today. I’m building a house for you, and look at your fresh mouth."
"Actually, want to work. Body is itching."
"Right, then let’s eat first."
One must eat a hearty mid-work snack to work well.
Afterward, Lackey processed the wood, while Ludwig and I tilled the field.
Perhaps because explaining it right up until sleeping yesterday paid off, he was doing well without me needing to point anything out separately.
’When the wheat grows, will we be able to make bread too?’
I might be able to eat processed food for the first time in a while.
Now hold on a second. You might ask why not just purchase it from the auction house.
Why bother doing it manually when food is scattered all over the auction house? Isn’t it a waste of time?
All of that is true. However, this was something to grow myself.
Who said it? If you want to become rich, start by making your bed.
It was a similar main point. Achieving something by myself.
Developing little by little through that sense of accomplishment.
Developing myself, not martial power. Put like this, it felt strange.

"Huh? Is there something over there?"

"Ah. There’s a big rock. Hold on."
Right now was time to work hard tilling the field.
Paladins.
Knights who harbor faith and grow strong based on that belief.
"Dig over there."
"Understood."
Occasionally, they are also used as manual labor.
Ludwig worked hard tilling the field alongside Grylls.Visit novelping dot com for the full chapter.
When he heard they were going to farm, he was truly excited, but actually doing it was a pretty difficult task.
First of all, sorting out the stones inside the soil was extremely tricky. They were the main culprits making even turning the soil difficult.
If a stone too large to remove was embedded, they had no choice but to find another plot.
Going through this process, they somehow tilled the field, but this wasn’t the end.
’Will it really grow right away?’
He had already heard from Grylls.
The person who was given soil from the Forest of the Four Seasons said crops grew in an instant.
They didn’t even plant seeds in that soil. They simply scattered it like fertilizer.
Hearing this, Ludwig couldn’t help but feel slightly disappointed.
The reason he wanted to farm was to see crops grow in real-time with his own eyes.
However, if they grew right away, he wouldn’t have time to feel a sense of pride, so wouldn’t his enthusiasm completely fizzle out?
’It can’t be helped.’
Immediate survival was the issue, so what did something like that matter?
Real farming could be done after escaping from the Forest of the Four Seasons.
No matter how long that period took, it should be possible within 10 years.
As long as he stayed alive, escape was not impossible.
"Here are the seeds. You just sow these."
"Thank you."
Ludwig received the seeds from Grylls.
Tiny, little wheat seeds. Now, if he sowed these in the field, golden wheat would grow.
Whish! Whish!
Ludwig and Grylls scattered seeds all over the field.
Now, soon those seeds would germinate and transform into massive wheat.
Just in case, they even poured plenty of water through a hose.
And then...
SSUUUUUUUK!
Just as Grow Big and Tall testified, the wheat grew in an instant.
Grylls and Ludwig marveled at the sight for only a moment before soon tilting their heads.
"Why is this so..."
"It’s too big."
The wheat was way too big. Not just big, but tall.
To the point where they had to tilt their heads all the way back. It was a size that matched Largo the giraffe.
The seeds were definitely seeds from the outside, so why on earth did they grow like this?
"Nyam nyam nyam."
"Hey hey. You can’t eat that. Go away."
"Go away."
To the point where Largo was munching on it very comfortably.
Grylls and Ludwig barely managed to stop Largo before looking at the wheat.
It was good that the size got bigger, but the most important thing was the taste.
Whether making bread or making noodles using this wheat, it had to taste good.
Just as they pulled out swords instead of sickles to harvest the wheat.
Padadak!
A single small sparrow flew over.
A very small sparrow of the kind one would see on the outside.
"What? Where did these guys come from?"
"Mm..."
It was right when the two harbor doubts.
Pudadadadadak!
An exceptionally ominous noise entered their ears.
A sound reminiscent of a swarm of locusts flying over.
Grylls heard that sound and judged. This wasn’t a swarm of bugs.
A swarm of bugs should make an ultrasonic-like sound like weeeeeing~, but this was... right.
The sound of flapping wings. The sound of birds flapping their wings frantically.
’But why all of a sudden...’
Right as Grylls was about to make a judgment, the true identity of that wing-flapping sound was revealed.
"Jjaek! Jjaek! Jjaek!"
"Jjaaek! Jjaek! Jjaek!"
A flock of sparrows reminiscent of a swarm of locusts.
That flock of sparrows began charging toward the wheat that had grown with so much effort.
When Grylls and Ludwig stared blankly at that spectacle.
Pudadadadak! Pudadadadak!
The sparrow flock finished their feast and returned to the forest.
All that remained were bare wheat stems left behind.
It wasn’t a locust invasion, but an invasion of a sparrow flock.
"...Fuck."
"...Fucking shit."
The two men muttered softly as they witnessed that tragedy.
Homeland, race, language were all different, but for this moment, they were of one mind and one heart.
That bird is a harmful bird.
