I stared blankly at the flying bee.
As one could tell from the drone-like sound, it was colossal in size.
Simply describing it as "large" was insufficient. It far surpassed an Asian giant hornet.
’This is practically a drone.’
It felt like a large 1.5-liter water bottle was buzzing around in the air.
Perhaps because it was a bee inhabiting the Forest of the Four Seasons, even its size was extraordinary.
’Should I catch that though?’
I looked at the bee buzzing around like a drone.
Looking closely, it actually had a chubby, cute side to it. Aside from being terrifying due to its size.
What was most frightening was its stinger. The moment that stinger pierced me, a wind tunnel would open up in my body.
’First, I have to deal with it.’
Killing it was too dangerous; leading it outside seemed best.
From the looks of it, this fellow accidentally flew inside and couldn’t find its way back out.
Quietly moving only my eyes, I waited until the bee landed somewhere. The rest of the party hadn’t woken up yet.
Buzz- Thud-
Before long, the bee landed on the floor. The spot it landed on was none other than near my thigh.
Thanks to that, I could inspect the bee’s appearance in more detail.
’Fortunately, it’s a honeybee.’
Its appearance wasn’t sharp; it looked gentle, and its body was plump.
While it was a relief it wasn’t a hornet, I couldn’t let my guard down at all.
Quietly, so as not to let the honeybee notice, I slowly reached out my hand.
Grab!
"?!"
The moment I grabbed it tightly with my hand, the honeybee went wild, trying to get free.
As I mentioned earlier, the honeybee’s body size was similar to a 1.5L water bottle. Holding it in one hand was tough.
It was lucky my hands were large; otherwise, it would’ve been overwhelming.
"Calm down. I have no intention of hurting you."
Bzzzz! Bzzz!
Even as I said that, the honeybee wriggled to escape.
Seeing a giant honeybee squirming around wasn’t a pleasant sight.
Not that it was sickening, but more like a strange feeling of guilt. Maybe because its appearance itself was rather cute.
Title) Caught a Honeybee
Wild Grylls
(Photo of a huge, cute honeybee)
(Video of the honeybee wriggling)
Heard a weird noise in the morning, opened my eyes, and found this huge honeybee.
I caught it for now, but does anyone know what this is?
└ Heavenly Demon) Golden in color and considering its size, I suspect it is the Golden Bee King.
└ Wild Grylls) Judging by the name, it sounds like an extremely rare species?
└ Heavenly Demon) An exceptionally rare species indeed. It is a creature born and raised only in places abundant with energy. However, I heard they do not grow to such a massive size.
└ Wild Grylls) How big are they normally?
└ Heavenly Demon) About half that size. Did you by any chance capture a Queen Bee?
└ Wild Grylls) I’m not sure about that.
└ If he caught a queen bee, Grylls’s house would’ve been devastated already.
└ In the past, there were many incidents where some crazy guy took a queen bee and got stung to death by bees.
└ I heard a rumor that someone got bitten to death.
└ Isn’t that from catching a queen ant?
└ LOL The bee is plump and cute.
└ Hey.
└ Why
└ Never mind.
└ What the f*. Speak properly if you’re gonna speak.
└ By the way, Grylls aside, why is Heavenly Demon on the Gallery since morning?
└ Heavenly Demon) This mistress possesses a body that has no particular need for sleep.
└ So you stay on the Gallery for 24 hours?
└ Heavenly Demon) Is there not nothing else to do?
└ Hmm. That’s true.
└ You’re browsing the Gallery too.
└ That’s also true.
└ F*, admitting it so easily LOL
└ LOL
Because it was so early in the morning, there weren’t many prominent fixed-handle users visible.
As for Heavenly Demon, unless under special circumstances, she was someone who resided here 24/7, so it could be overlooked.
She was someone who usually commented first anyway, so nothing was unusual.
Bzzzzzzz!!
"Okay, okay. I’ll let you outside."
"What are you doing, Master?"
Just as I turned off the Gallery and was about to move, Lackey’s voice reached my ears.
Turning my gaze, I saw Lackey poking only his head out, looking over here.
Ludwig was the same. Though he didn’t speak, he seemed to have woken up due to the noise.
"A bee came inside. See this?"
"...Is that a bee?"Find the original chapter at novelping dot com.
"Yeah. Looks like it got lost."
"Send it away fast. Honeybees hurt."
Apparently, Lackey had been stung by a honeybee before.
I looked back and forth between the struggling honeybee in my hand and Lackey, then felt a wave of mischief.
"Oooooh!"
"G-Get that away!"
When I pushed the honeybee forward, Lackey gasped and pulled the blanket over his head.
Chuckling, I swung the door wide open. Now I just needed to release this fellow.
BZZZZZZZ!!!
"...."
Slam!
The moment I saw the outside situation, I slammed the door shut violently.
What on earth did I just see, and what did I just hear?
The sound alone was terrifying, but the sight I saw with my eyes was horrifying.
"...You go out first."
Opening the door slightly, I let the honeybee out.
Fearing it might sting me, I didn’t forget to wrap myself in Body-Protecting Gangqi.
’If I knew this would happen, I should’ve installed a peep-hole in the door.’
Lamenting inwardly, I softly pressed my ear against the door.
As expected, drone-like sounds could be heard outside. And not just one or two, but multiple sounds overlapping.
Deducing from that, honeybees were likely gathering outside. I was half-certain.
’Why on earth... wait, no, there IS a reason.’
The World Tree that had bloomed in full flower yesterday. The thought suddenly struck me that they must have been drawn by the World Tree’s fragrance.
Since the mana disruptor Princess Chaenggu gave me couldn’t affect scents. If they were drawn to that, there was no helping it.
Thanks to the bug repellent, they couldn’t enter the house, but as a result, a whole swarm seemed to have gathered outside.
The sight of countless honeybees buzzing around like drones was pure shock.
’Still, I have to go outside....’
I let out a deep breath. I couldn’t just stay hunkered down inside the house forever.
So I informed the group in advance: a terrifying number of bees were flying around outside.
I told them to stay inside for the time being since I needed to check the situation.
"Master. Honeybees hurt. Be careful."
"Looks like you’ve been stung before?"
"Tried to eat honey and got stung. Almost died."
"...."
You were in the wrong there, you rascal. I threw him a look of disappointment.
Considering the size of the honeybees, getting stung even once would cause extreme pain.
Yet, seeing how he sturdily survived, his tenacity for life was definitely stubborn.
’Then again, even carrying the penalty of being an albino, if he weren’t like that...’
Marveling anew at Lackey’s vital force, I enveloped myself in Body-Protecting Gangqi.
Praying that the honeybee sting wouldn’t penetrate the Body-Protecting Gangqi, I quietly opened the door.
BZZZZZZZ!!!
As soon as I opened the door, the expected scene unfolded before my eyes.
Around the beautifully blooming World Tree, countless honeybees were flying.
Not only were they huge, but their overwhelming numbers inspired pure intimidation.
’Will I even be able to go about daily life properly today?’
Following the awe, concern took precedence. In this state, normal living would be impossible.
I didn’t quite know the honeybees’ purpose, and if they kept buzzing around like this, problems would inevitably arise.
’I get that they came looking for World Tree flowers, but....’
Just as my heart was about to grow heavy, a few honeybees attached themselves to me.
Because their size was so big, I felt weight just from them clinging onto me.
’Still, better than getting stung by a bee....’
Slurp!
Right after that thought, something astonishing happened.
The honeybee literally ’tore away’ my Body-Protecting Gangqi with its mouth.
It felt less like it tore through Body-Protecting Gangqi and more like it bit off a chunk of raw mana.
It was remarkably similar to the sensation I felt whenever Cheongseol licked my cheek.
Slurp! Crunch!
Before I knew it, numerous honeybees clung to me, ripping away my mana.
As if there were something even tastier than World Tree flowers, they devoured it ravenously.
If it were just one, it’d be fine, but with several biting off at once, the drain speed was severe.
"Hey, hey! Stop it! You bastards!"
I managed to pry the honeybees off somehow, but they flew back and attached themselves to me again.
Yet, I couldn’t turn off Body-Protecting Gangqi now either, out of fear of getting stung.
Fortunately, as if deciding they had taken all they could take, they detached after a short while.
’It took almost half my mana....’
I lost nearly half of my total mana with my eyes wide open. Stunned beyond belief, I stared at the honeybees.
The honeybees that had been circling the World Tree eventually gathered onto it.
Thanks to that, I breathed a sigh of relief, but there was no telling what would happen next.
"Master. Is it all over?"
When it quieted down outside, Lackey opened the door slightly and asked me.Get faster updates on novelping.com.
I wondered if it was really over, but gave a nod for now.
At that, Lackey cautiously stepped outside. Ludwig and Cain followed out as well.
[What happened for it to be so noisy since morning?]
"Bees about this big were flying around. I think it’s because of the World Tree."
Although it had quieted down for now, there was no telling what would happen next.
If they built a hive like that, it could become quite headache-inducing.
’Normally, beehives should be removed quickly....’
Unless you’re a beekeeper, it’s best to dispose of beehives immediately.
Whether on Earth or in this world, bees were one of the most dangerous insects.
Fortunately, they were honeybees rather than hornets, but from my perspective, it was six of one and half a dozen of the other.
’Or should I wait until they make World Tree honey?’
That wasn’t a bad choice either. Though uncomfortable cohabitation was the problem.
I sighed at the honeybees that hid between the tree branches despite their huge size.
For now, it was better to do the tasks at hand. I should apply insect repellent meticulously.
"First, while it’s quieted down, let’s do our chores. Anyone want to wash up first?"
"I will wash first."
Lackey’s words carried a strong vibe of wanting to handle it quickly.
Well, having trauma from being stung by bees, it wasn’t strange.
Soon, one by one, everyone did their work and prepared breakfast.
I didn’t forget to be careful so smoke wouldn’t drift toward the World Tree during meal preparation.
’By the way, she called them Golden Bee Kings, right? I wonder what abilities they have.’
Surprisingly, until breakfast was completely finished, the bees remained quiet.
No news is good news, but I wondered if this wasn’t too quiet.
Cautiously wrapping myself in Body-Protecting Gangqi, I approached the World Tree.
The World Tree was still expressing its beauty with flowers in full bloom.
Bzzz-
As I drew near, a small insect flew over. I stared at the insect.
Surprisingly, it was a honeybee. Though small, it wasn’t much different from the honeybees earlier.
’Did it have offspring already in that short time?’
Holding that question, I stepped closer to the World Tree.
The honeybee merely hovered around me for a while, offering no particular threat.
Approaching closely, I was able to see something hanging among the thick flowers.
’They already made a hive.’
It was a beehive. As expected, they built a hive in that short time.
Right around the time I was contemplating whether to remove it or leave it, an anomaly occurred at the beehive.
BZZZZZZ!
One by one, honeybees revealed themselves and approached me.
Flustered, I stepped back, but realized they were not threatening me.
Rather, it was the opposite. Held in the honeybees’ legs was a golden-shimmering liquid.
The moment I saw that sight, I gently held out my hand.
Drip-
As I extended my hand, the honeybees sat lightly on my palm one by one, placed the liquid down, and flew off. The liquid possessed a color so brilliant it seemed to glow.
At first, the amount was small, but as it accumulated, it soon pooled in my palm.
"...You want me to drink this?"
Bzzz-
In response to my words, instead of answering, the honeybees circled around me.
Could this be their repayment for ripping away my mana earlier? I felt bewildered.
At any rate, since they told me to drink, I should drink it. I poured the glittering honey into my mouth.
"...Woah."
It was truly delicious. Simply describing it as sweet wasn’t enough.
Usually, eating too much sweet stuff makes the tongue sore or sick of it, but not this.
It was on par with or even far superior to the honey the deer brought last time.
’With this, I could keep making candied sweet potatoes!’
For the honeybees to be friendly toward us. What a piece of great news amidst my worries. Even the insects in the Forest of the Four Seasons seemed to possess high intelligence.
I told the honeybees to wait a moment, then went to fetch a bottle.
As if the honeybees were clever, they poured honey into the bottle drop by drop.
’This much should be enough.’
No need to be greedy. As soon as I received a moderate amount, I returned.
Soon, with a delighted heart, I made candied sweet potatoes for the kids.
For the time being, there was no reason to worry about honey. The problem was...
"Ggyuuu... Slurp...."
"Wonmo-ya! No!"
Wonmo, whose nature was close to a bear, had his eyes turn wild.
Being a fellow who was absurdly good at catching the scent of honey, he seemed to have realized a sweet fragrance was coming from the World Tree.
He even climbed up the tree expertly. I saw it and tried to stop him, but it was too late.
BZZZZZZ!
Before I knew it, a Golden Bee King—restored to its original massive size—threatened Wonmo, and then...
Poke!
"GGYUAAAAGH!!"
"Oh boy."
It delivered punishment directly to Wonmo.
